Air Liquide recently introduced an innovative wastewater treatment technology – ASPALTM Clean solution for business applications in China. As a proven technology widely applied in Europe, the solution is expected to help Chinese customers significantly reduce sludge disposal costs and improve waste water treatment process stability.

Under a long-term contract recently signed with one of the main wastewater treatment plants in Qingdao, Shandong province, Air Liquide provides the customer with a complete ASPALTM Clean solution, from equipment and technology to oxygen supply. This is Air Liquide's first ASPALTM Clean contract signed in China as well as in Asia.

ASPALTM Clean is an exclusive biological sludge treatment solution developed by Air Liquide. So far, Air Liquide has already installed numerous ASPALTMClean stations in Europe. Through controlled ozone injections, it allows for effective selection of the bacterial population composition, enhancing the retention of desired microbial populations and eliminating undesired ones (such as filamentous bacteria). This process substantially optimizes the performance of waste treatment sludge discharge and sludge settling.

With increasingly rigorous environmental protection laws and regulations being enforced in China, the traditional methods of sludge treatment and disposal are likely to encounter more challenges. ASPALTM Clean is an innovative and effective way to help the industry meet these challenges and fulfill the most stringent effluent quality requirements.

Marcelo Fioranelli, President & CEO of Air Liquide China, commented: "Given the Chinese authority’s increasing emphasis on green economy, environmentally friendly solutions are becoming a key differentiator for companies to stand out in the Chinese market. Air Liquide is committed to continuously providing innovative solutions such as ASPALTM Clean to help our Chinese customers to operate in a cost-effective and eco-friendly manner.”
